[No-Code·Low-Code Automation Conference 2022] Hyun-Gil Lim, CEO of STEG

"We’re not saying you should develop everything from A to Z using a no-code platform. But when you want to build a workplace for digital transformation, our no-code-based platform can make it much easier."

Hyun-Gil Lim, CEO of STEG, made this statement during his presentation at the No-Code·Low-Code Automation Conference held on November 11 at the Grand Ballroom of the Fairmont Ambassador Seoul Hotel in Yeouido, Seoul.

STEG is a domestic IT Service Management (ITSM) specialist company that has invested heavily in no-code technology. Lim recalled, “I was amazed in the early 2000s when foreign solutions could be implemented without coding, just through customization. However, they still lacked the ability to meet all requirements, which inspired me to start a company to develop ITSM that could overcome these limitations.”

Global Leaders and No-Code Platforms

Lim highlighted examples of global companies that have secured leading positions in their industries through proprietary no-code platforms:

- SAP (ERP specialist)

- Salesforce (CRM specialist)

- ServiceNow (ITSM specialist, similar to STEG)

These companies have built ecosystems involving over 1,000 partners based on their no-code platforms. They share common traits: leveraging no-code technology to turn their solutions into “killer solutions” and actively sharing this technology with partners and customers.

Why No-Code Fits ITSM

STEG recognized that integrating no-code technology into ITSM is highly beneficial. Efficient IT management requires:

- Organizing all resources into a database

- Implementing management processes for each resource through workflows

- Accumulating data during IT resource management

- Analyzing accumulated data for decision-making via dashboards

- Interfaces to connect systems organically

- Smooth handling of system changes and development over time

No-code technology supports these processes by integrating scattered online/offline workflows, managing tasks according to business flows, and enabling continuous improvement.

Key Features of STEG ITSM

STEG ITSM offers several no-code functionalities:

- Entity Manager: Manages DBMS components (tables, keys, fields, indexes) through an Excel-like UI

- SQL Manager: Allows SQL creation without prior knowledge of SQL syntax

- Relation Manager: Creates relationships between IT resources

- Workflow Manager: Defines tasks as processes and implements them as workflows, as easily as creating slides in PowerPoint

- Form Designer: Builds screens without source coding using drag-and-drop; supports all web and mobile web app environments

Additional IT operational support features include:

- DevOps framework support

- Agile sprint tools

- Version and patch management

- Operational monitoring and log management

Collaboration tools, increasingly adopted by companies, are also built-in. Furthermore, STEG has established an ecosystem to support AI, online payments, and Robotic Process Automation (RPA). Lim explained, “For features that cannot be supported via no-code, we provide them through plug-ins. For example, Clipsoft’s reporting document viewer and SNUAILAB’s Vision AI are supported this way.”

Supporting Startups and Ensuring Performance

Lim emphasized that STEG’s no-code solution can help startups struggling to secure IT development capabilities. He also addressed concerns about performance and security, stating:

"Over 15 years of business, we’ve accumulated extensive software expertise and conducted numerous performance improvements while supplying solutions to financial institutions, public organizations, and large enterprises. Many doubt the level of applications that can be developed with no-code, but our solution was even used in an application delivered for KRW 450 million."

Market Leadership

"In the past, the ITSM market was dominated by foreign solutions. Today, STEG has secured over 100 references and achieved more than 70% market share domestically. Notably, since introducing no-code support, we have not lost a single customer to a ‘win-back’ (solution replacement) case." Lim concluded.
